I chose to do a monogram for this assignment. As I was trying to pick a font that gave me an idea of a concept to use, I scrolled past the monograms and thought it would be a great thing to produce for assignment 4, and I decided to model it for this assignment.
To create it was a bit of a struggle. The font I chose wouldn't allow me to insert 3 separate letters, so I had to manually create the font that I wanted by cutting up each one and putting them together to make the form I wanted.
After that, I had to figure out how to get the design to a form where it was possible for it to be cuttable with the laser cutter. I was not able to figure out exactly how to join everything, so I had to think of an alternative idea.
My new thought was to just cut out the letters with the printer and use the outline of what is cut out as my design. That is not how I would like the print to ultimately come out, but I will work on it before completing assignment 4 to make it what I want it to be.
My main issue that I ran into was that I was able to begin the project on a computer in the lab with Illustrator, but I was not able to save my work on the lab computer because of a licensing issue. So, I had to create the design on my own computer, which doesn't have illustrator. In order to fix this, I will need to create the design in Illustrator from a lab computer and make it do what I want it to in order to import it into Rhino and have it look how I want and have it be possible to laser cut.
