All of these readings had to do with aspects of "good design". Good design and usability are important aspects of all things, and these readings have good points that are important to keep in mind.
The reading by Dieter Rams had 10 "commandments" of design. I was intrigued by the first one, especially; that good design is not exhausted. I think this is important to focus on. Technology is always progressing and moving forward, and sometimes the designers will get stuck, but there will always be a next step and that is vital to remember when designing something. There is always something that can be improved upon. All of these rules were true, but the first one was my favorite to keep in mind.
The next reading played off of these commandments a bit. It was called "Startups, This is How Design Works". I thought it was very interesting how they incorporated some user design into the reading itself; it gave the ability to click on certain words or phrases and get more information on that particular thing. The way it was so interactive really gave an example about what the whole reading was about; the different types of design and the important aspects of design. I really loved this layout and thought it was a brilliant way to show what they were talking about.
The reading "The Demise of 'Form Follows Function'" was very interesting to me. It talked about the "dislocation" of form and function. I really liked this post. I loved the example it used of the iPod Shuffle, because it showed the point so well. The point being that not all forms follow the function anymore, and today's designs are beginning to try to improve on one another even though they all have the same general functions. It talks about the user interface being a determinant of the quality, and I think that is so true. The design has to be usable to the purchasers.
