We began with the idea of a lamp. We wanted to create something functional, as well as something that created movement out of a material that is thought to be immovable. We wanted to make our design out of wood to make that happen. We went through multiple design ideas, and took a while to nail down what exactly we wanted to do. Eventually, we just took our inspirations and created a form based off of those ideas. The design we chose put together different shapes to create a hanging light fixture with a unique form. By using a curved pentagon form, we were able to make an object that had curves and created the movable look. The pieces fit together in a way that created a unique design but was still fully functional. We really liked the idea of creating something that had a solid function, but was still a unique form that looked interesting. By starting with the idea of a lamp and working our way through different designs and forms and joinery techniques, we were able to create a project that incorporated all we were looking for and make something we are all happy with.
| We started with an idea of a lamp that creates movement from a material that doesn't seem very movable. In order to create this object, we created a form and then cut it apart using 123D Make. From there, we separated the parts and created joints so that our joinery would fit together. Finding the exact right size joints was a bit of a struggle, but after finding the right size, we were able to complete the design and fit it together well to create a functioning lamp. |
